Anna-Lena Ruff’s artistic practice embraces slowness and emotional engagement. She approaches painting as an intensive process through which perception and relationships are condensed and materialised on the canvas. Her commitment to presence and individual perception is a plea for the significance of the accidental, the singular, and the personal.
Drawing on her experiences as a young mother, she is currently exploring corporeality, social roles, and identities. The paintings in her series motherhoods tell personal stories while reflecting on cultural representations of motherhood and societal expectations, which she confronts with openness, honesty, and resistance.
Anna-Lena Ruff setzt in ihrer Kunst auf Entschleunigung und emotionale Involviertheit. Malerei erlebt sie als einen intensiven Prozess, während dem sie Wahrnehmung und Beziehung auf der Leinwand verdichtet und materialisiert. Ihr Beharren auf Präsenz und individueller Wahrnehmung, ist ein Plädoyer für die Relevanz des Zufälligen, des Singulären und des Persönlichen.
Ausgehend von ihren Erfahrungen als junge Mutter setzt sie sich aktuell mit Körperlichkeit, sozialen Rollen und Identitäten auseinander. Die Bilder aus der Serie «motherhoods» erzählen persönliche Geschichten und reflektieren kulturelle Mutterbilder und gesellschaftliche Zuschreibungen, denen sie mit Offenheit, Ehrlichkeit und Widerstand begegnet.
